Merry Christmas! Welcome back to 'Cook with Harrel'! Christmas is around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than with a dessert steeped in holiday tradition?
That's right, a Christmas pudding! I'm gonna show you how to make this traditional holiday dessert! Grab your apron and let's get into the festive spirit!
Let's start off by chopping up some dried fruits. Chop them up fairly small until they look something like this, at which point we'll go ahead at transfer them into a nice big mixing bowl.
Add little currants, some raisins, a whole bunch of dried cranberries, and some candied ginger, which I chopped up nice and small. Give it a quick mix, and let it sit for a few minutes.
Time to make a batter! Add one beaten egg, a splash of cream and some buttermilk and mix it again.
Once that's mixed up, we'll go ahead and add a little bit of salt, festive nuts, dry bread crumbs and flour. Mix them until it forms a very thick, sticky batter.
We're halfway there! Transfer the batter into a bowl, stretch over two pieces of plastic wrap, and place this on a third plastic wrap, to really hold everything nice and securely. Cover the bowl with aluminum foil and place it into a pot.
Fill this pot about halfway up with water, turn the heat onto high, and cover that tightly. After steaming for four hours, our pudding should be cooked.
Place a plate over the top and then carefully turn this over to reveal the stunning beauty. A properly steamed Christmas pudding! For a final touch, paint it all over with maple syrup, and garnish it with holly.
And there you go! your very own homemade Christmas pudding! Thanks for spending some time in the kitchen with me today. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and I'll see you in the next video.
