Hello everyone, welcome to this mini-lecture on Unit 5. This unit is about friendship. Friendship is a relationship in which people experience dedication, loyalty, and security. The two texts are selected to show how friendship can be developed across borders and how friendship can be appreciated despite gender differences.
Text A describes the eternal friendship between the Crooks and the Chinese people. By reading Text A, we can learn that true friendship has no borders, and it can last forever when based on a common noble belief.
Text B focuses on the differences between the author’s friendships with men and women. By reading Text B, we can learn that it is fine if they treat male friends and female friends in different ways, for men and women have very different emotional and rational processes. We may be prompted to reflect on the differences and to enhance our communication skills to strengthen friendship across genders. Most importantly, we can understand better what friendship means to people and value our own friendships even more.
Friends are our treasure. What is a real friend? How can we find a good friend? Who should we keep away from when making friends? Watch a video clip and you may get ideas about these questions..
